This is the second show by Mordialloc Theatre Company that l have seen this year. I've not been disappointed.   I love the Theatre. As l have said before l mainly see Community Theatre but the standard is so high l don't feel like I'm missing out by not going to the big shows. Each year l see so many different shows. What a treat.

Do you have someone visiting Melbourne this week? Do you want to see one of the big shows in the city? I'm talking about the CBD Theatres this week and there are quite a few. Melbourne is a very cultural city and we have some lovely theatres, not just in the suburbs, but all through the CBD. Plenty of choose from. I'm sticking to the suburbs for the next few weeks but hope you find something on this list that appeals to you. While you're sitting in a CBD Theatre on the weekend l will be in a suburban theatre and will tell you all about it on Monday. Enjoy. My first time seeing The Pirate Queen. This musical was written by the same team that wrote Les Miserables. What did l think of it?  I think it's so important to see, and support community theatre. Do you agree?

Shakespeare in the suburbs. This is my favourite Shakespeare play.   Do you like Macbeth? Do you like live Theatre? Malvern Theatre Company is based in Burke Road Malvern.  Another good community Theatre group we have here in Melbourne.  Let me know what your local arts scene is like. This was a day of firsts; my first time seeing the Frankston Theatre Company and the fist time visiting this theatre.  It's a lovely little theatre and will now be the permanent home for Frankston Theatre Company.    An Inspector Calls is a play written by J.B. Priestly.  It is set in 1912. The Berling family are gathered to celebrate the engagement of their daughter Sheila to Gerald Croft. There is a knock on the door and Inspector Goole walks in informing them of the death of a young woman who all those present know.  What follows is a play about ethics, compassion and remorse. The play is a critique of society at that time. It is a very good play. It was also a good production by Frankston Theatre Company.  Only one set was used, the costuming authentic and the acting of a good, believable standard. An early birthday treat. I love live Theatre. There's something magical about it. Who else loves the Theatre?  

I saw the first show in Mordialloc Theatre's 2025 and it was good. There is something magical about watching live theatre. It is the immediacy of watching a story unfold.  Love it.  What about you.? My own 2025 year in the arts is off to a flying start and l am loving every minute of it.

The doors opened and in they came, and kept on coming.  A full house, happy and cheerful crowd. Welcome to a PLOS show. This musical, l am told, is based on a film which was based on a book. I had not read the book or seen the film so it was all new to me. The story is based in the 1960's and l think the set was designed to look like a 60's variety show. The orchestra was on 2 levels and it's a real treat to have a live orchestra playing. What a triumph for PLOS. The constant high standard of their shows means l will see everything they stage. A real stand out is the singing.  Everyone sang so well and this happens with every show. There was a lot of dancing and costume changes. Everyone played their part well with all of them having American accents. The best performance was by Aidan Niarros as Carl Hanratty. He is a Primary School Teacher by day, but what a performance.   Another triumph, another full theatre and another standing ovation. If there is one piece of advice l could impart to you all it is this; if you have a chance to see a PLOS show see it. What a performance. This is musical theatre at its best. The standard of singing is so high that this show could be staged on any of the big theatres in Melbourne and this is the same with every PLOS show. Mitchell Smith and Guada Banez play the lead roles with aplomb and work well together. Lauren Edwards shines as Shirley Hastings, Bryn J Clapp is wonderfully bombastic as Barry Fife and Joel Richardson is so good as the perennial drunk. Everything works well with this production. All the cast dance and sing with confidence and skill. The ballroom frocks sparkle and the lighting really adds to the show. It ended with people dancing in the aisles. Did l love this show? Yes l did. This musical is based on the Australian film and this is an Australian show. The characters, the language, it all means...

  On Saturday l attended a performance of Stage Door at the Shirley Burke Theatre in Parkdale. It was performed by Aspect Inc which is a community theatre group. The play is set in 1930's New York and revolves around a rooming house for young inspiring female actors. Can l say that this was the first, and last, time l will see this play. It was listed as a comedy but l didn't find it funny or that interesting. Having said that l did like the performance. It was a big cast that played off each other well. I don't know if the accents were authentic New York accents but they were constant throughout.There were a few actors making their debut. Both of them performed well. The staging and costuming looked authentic too. Although l didn't like this play l would see other productions from Aspect Inc. What about you?
