Can l suggest you grab a drink and make yourself comfortable.  Christina Rosetti was an English poet from a very artistic family. This is one of her best known poems and is studied at Universities. The beauty of this poem is that the meaning is unclear. I see sisterhood and a few other themes. Listen to the video, read the poem and let me know what you think it's about.  We are up to sonnet 19. There is already a change. Hope you are enjoying the sonnets as much as l do.

We are up to Sonnet XVII  You may be wondering where Sonnet 16 is. Well, l thought we were up to 17 so that's what l wrote in my book and, then when l was filming the video l couldn't read my own writing.  A comedy of errors.  These Sonnets are grouped together as they all have the same theme; that a young man will only be remembered on if he has a child. Now, l would suggest that Shakespeare himself is known today for his written work not his family.  So l don't know if that premise is always true. Anyway l think 17 Sonnets on the one subject is enough.  There are many more Sonnets and,  hopefully,  next week we will have new subjects and ideas to explore. I have my first poem by a Dutch poet today. I hope you are enjoying these poems as much as l am. I also like looking at poets from all the different countries, and centuries.  Fridays are for poems and books. Next week l will be talking about a book that now has a release date. This is my first Russian poem. Russia has a such rich arts history.  Think of all the wonderful authors and composers over the years. I had never heard of this poet, but, l think he is well known in Russia. It's a longer poem but stay with it as there is real emotional intensity.  He was well known for this.  I hope you enjoy.   

 Back home this week.  Australia's premier poetry prize is named after this poet and l can understand why. This is a melancholy poem. The sadness is real and it is very well written.  Hope you enjoy 

My first Swedish poem.  I hope you are enjoying them all.

It's Wednesday and that means poetry.  Today l have a German poem by Rainer Maria Rilke. I believe that poetry is a universal language and you can find wonderful poems in so many countries.  I know that I'm enjoying my research.  Next week I'm thinking of maybe looking at Japan, or maybe Czechoslovakia.  What would you like to hear? It's turned into a crazy week.  I filmed this when l had a spare moment.   This is my first Norwegian poem. I did try and pronounce the title but mangled it. My apologies to any Norwegians who read this.  What a treat this worldwide search for poems has become.  Poetry is a universal language and  with all the different countries and cultures I'm finding something different each week: bliss. Hope you enjoy. 

This is my first Spanish poem.  Can l say how much l love this poem?  It is rich in imagery and there is something wonderful about the language and the tone when you read it aloud. Repeating lines and l felt like l was watching that person on the balcony enveloped in the green.  What a good poet Frederico Garcia Lorca was. He was a poet, theatre director and playwright. How tragic that he was assassinated by National forces at the beginning of the Spanish Civil War. He was only 38. I hope you enjoy this poem as much as l do.

My first Chinese poem.  I love poetry and love researching poetry. To be honest it was the title that drew my attention.  I like butterflies 🦋  Why oh why did l wait to look at Chinese poetry. China has such a long, interesting history.  From what l have read this poem is thought to be around 1000 years old. At the time there were 3 types of poetry: fu a style between poetry and prose, pianwen a tonal style and baguwen an 8 leg essay. This poem is about Spring yet there is a sense of melancholy in the second stanza. Being the age that it is it would have been spoken, and, apparently back then the poems were spoken with music. Now wouldn't that be treat to see. Su Shi is the poet and Saga Ringmat translated the poem. What is current Chinese poetry like?
