Am l the only one still listening to music from the 1920's?

I love this music  Think of the jazz age. Flappers, speakeasies and sweet, sweet music. It has a distinct sound which l think is caused by the recordings. The audio industry was very basic then. But l think that adds to the sound. Leon, Bix, Beiderbecke, Bessie Smith, Louis Armstrong and his mentor Joe, Oliver, King. That's just a few names. Orchestra's and big bands were around then and that's how so many musicians got their start. Paul Whiteman was a band leader who Bix played for. Can l suggest you listen to some of this music and, who knows, you may like it like l do.

Talking about the blues

I was going to talk about jazz today but felt like talking about the blues.  Jazz and blues are often joined together and there are some in list that are jazz clubs who are also blues clubs. COLLARD GREENS AND GRAVY, BLUES WITH A FEELIN'

Image
Today l'm talking about the blues. Following on from last week, l'm talking about the best blues band l saw at Wangarratta. The festival is kicking off again next Friday, and, back when l was attending there used to be a blues tent. It was situated down by the river( a river that has flooded before). I was in that tent one very rainy Saturday night and sat listening to the music while watching the water slowly creep closer to the tent with all the amps and cords and all the other electrical things in the tent. But that's another story. We saw this band in a very crowded pub and the place was jumping. It was the music that tempted us in and what great music it was. In my opinion a blues band always sounds better with a harmonica player and that's what this group had with Ian Collard. There were drinks flowing and a good time was had by all. I like blues music and l like this band. Like other bands they had gone through changes in line up over the years. One original memb...

Ann Cleeves

I have said, more than once that l don't like owning books.  They multiply and soon you find there are so many that you need boxes to move them. I also like thinking about a book that has been passed on to someone else and someone else again. So how did l manage to find myself with 3 Ann Cleeves books?? The Raging Storm is a current one, but the other 2 are earlier books that have been re-released. The latest one l bought, A Lesson in Dying, was one l forgot l'd ordered. When l picked it up l had about half an hour to wait for the bus so l started reading it.  Do you remember a few videos ago l was saying that l downloaded an audio book from the library but then returned it because l didn't like the book or the narrators voice. It was set in a school with ex school teachers; well, this book is also set in a school and l liked it.  I read the first chapter and this book is very different to the audio book. Much more in the style l like. So l will get around to reading all ...
