 We have 2 main cinema chains in Australia and they both show the same films. No difference.  What about those of us who want to see something different? Is that what it's like for you? Let's start a conversation. 

The film we wanted to see wasn't showing,                                                       so we saw this one instead.

This is the 2nd good film l've seen this month. It was only a few weeks ago that l made a video almost mourning the lack of interesting films this year. Well, in the space of a few weeks l have seen not 1 but 2 good films. The first one was The Odyssey. What a great film that was. Christopher Nolan is a great film maker. The 2nd film l saw was The Wizard of the Kremlin. It was good.  Set at the end of the Soviet Union and the rise of Putin this film follows the wizard who is like a right hand man to Putin. It involves Russian politics. I don't know if this person actually existed, but, it makes for a good story and we have all been told about what happens to people in Russia. Quite often it involves a window! Paul Dano is the wizard and Jude Law (who l didn't recognise at first) played Putin. I liked this film and recommend you see it. 4.5 out of 5.  

It's been slim pickings regarding films this year.  Finally l've been able to see this film in a cinema and it was worth it. Good script, great acting and amazing cinematography. 5 out 5 from me.

I'm talking about films today.  There seems to be a particular type of film that show constantly in the cinemas this year.  I like seeing films in a cinema. I also have a movie club. So far this year has been a disappointment. The cinemas have been full of, what l call, franchise films. You know the ones. Part3/4/5 of the same film. The Devil wears Prada 2 came out this year something like 16 years after the first one. Marvel and all those types of films. If you like that kind of film go and see them. I'm not saying that they shouldn't be made, but, what about the rest of us who want something different. It's like the film makers have run out of new ideas. I had such a good film year last year. This year is different, a complete disappointment.

I'm on the hunt for a film for my film club.  There's not much on. I have said before that any who like Marvel or Star Wars or franchise films good luck to you. I hope you see them, and, enjoy them. But what about those of us who want something different? I think what is missing is original ideas. The cinemas here are even showing 20/25/30th anniversary showings of films that came out years ago. I had such a good year last year with the films l saw. Each one different and enjoyable. This year is turning out to be a real disappointment. Let me know if you have seen any good films lately.

If you're in a cinema do you stay or do you walk out?  On Saturday l saw a film. It was a film l saw with my movie club.  When l'm choosing the film l have to keep in mind that it's not just for me; l have to pick a film that l think most members will want to see. I didn't want to see this film myself, but, went into the cinema with an open mind. So, what did we see? The Devil wears Prada 2.  It had a great cast and the production was good. The film itself not so good. If you watch my videos you can see that l don't follow fashion, nor do l read fashion magazines. I didn't see the first film either. That came out 20 years ago and l did wonder why, after all that time, make another film. In the past Meryl Streep has never made a sequel, l think this is the first time. I thought l was seeing a show on the weekend....  But realised that l didn't buy a ticket. Must have only thought about seeing it, and l was looking forward to it too! So l'm talking about another film l've seen recently. It was interesting, talking about a subject l know little about. John Davidson is a Scottish man who has severe Tourettes syndrom. This film is about his life. Robert Aramayo played the main role and his performance was so good. Shirley Henderson also gave a good performance as his mother. It's only April and l have seen more films than l normally would. They're all been different and l have enjoyed most of them. I like seeing films in a cinema. I don't think you can beat seeing it on a big screen with surrroud sound. Let me know if any of you have seen this film. Let's start a conversation.

The film l didn't want to see.   Do you like the music of Neil Diamond?

My 4th film of the year.  I put the disappointment of Wuthering Heights behind and saw another film.  Blue Moon is the story of Lorenz Hart, and any of you who love musical theatre will know that name. It's the opening night of Oklahoma and Rogers first collaboration with Hammerstein. Rogers is leaving Lorenz behind.  I would give this film 4.5 out of 5; it was that good. Ethan Hawke has received nominations for his performance and they are well deserved. Definitely one to see.

I've seen another film.  Yes, 2 in 2 weeks, most unusual. This past week it was Frankenstein and what a good film it was. I haven't read the book so don't know how faithful this film is to it. A big production that was written well, acted well; it was a good film. The acting was good from all cast members and, the actor who played the being must have spent hours in makeup to look the way he did. It's a film that is a horror from start to finish with themes that make you think about them afterwards. My takeaway is that Victor was the true monster. How lucky am l to see 2 good films recently and l've seen the shorts of a film that is releasing in November and l will see that one too. Frankenstein 4 out of 5 stars.

An interesting film.  I can't really remember the last time l saw Julia Roberts in a film.  The performances of all the cast were good and this was an interesting film that made me think about afterwards; the sign of a good film l think. Have you seen this film?

 Recently l saw 2 films in the space of a few days.  Very unusual for me but l was happy with both films. I spoke about Ocean a few weeks ago and today I'm going to talk about The Salt Path. Firstly l have to say that l didn't know this film was based on a true life book. I had never heard of, or seen, the book so l was going in with no preconceived ideas. Gillian Anderson and Jason Isaacs play the lead roles. The film starts with them both hiding under the stairs from bailiffs who have come to reposes their farm. A business deal has gone bad and the couple are left losing everything and becoming homeless.   While hiding they spy a book about treks in England and both decide to walk one of them to Lands End. They have a tent and very little money.  Moth has also been diagnosed with a very serious illness.   The film is about the walk and the people,  and acts of kindness,  they meet. I saw this film/documentary on Friday.  It was very confronting.  Now, l  will admit that l am a vegetarian who is fast becoming a vegan but, l do accept that other people are not.  You may be asking yourself why l am telling you that about myself when I'm talking about a film. It's because this film lays bare the damage that over fishing , and big trawlers do when they rake their nets along the seabed.  Whole ecosystems are left baren like moonscapes. There is no hyperbole or graphics used. Cameras were mounted on nets and showed exactly what happens when they use them. The film also shows the magnificence of the world below. It also talks about solutions that include sustainable fishing. It really was a wonderful film/documentary. If you get the chance to see please do. I love musical theatre; it's my absolute favourite.  So why, you may be asking,  am l taking about cinema live when I've mentioned musical theatre.    This is the film l recently saw and,yes, it is a musical.  This production was filmed in West End of London in 2014. Elliott Hanna played Billy. What a talent he is. I looked him up and he's still in the industry.  Chris Grahamson played his father and he was very good too. This is what cinema live is. Each year they release musical films. The one l saw was definitely performed live in front of an enthusiast crowd, which we saw along with shots of the theatre. We even had an interval as you normally would in the theatre.  Was it the same as being there, no of course not, but this is a great, affordable,  way to see musicals. This film is the 3rd of 5 for this year. I didn't see the first 2 but will be seeing the next film which is Bonnie and Clyde the musical.  As far as l know this musical has...
