Another good suburban show

Image
Watching the arts in the suburbs of Melbourne.  The Bel Canto Choir was formed 24 years ago. This all female choir is still going strong. The program this year was chosen by the choir and audience members. If you watch the video l show the program. It was a variety of songs that worked well. If there is one thing l would like to do it is to sing in a choir. My singing voice is so bad that if l did start singing people would be running for the doors! Are you in a choir? Let's start a conversation.

It was an ordinary Thursday morning...

I had seen this flyer a few days before.  I was in Frankston on Thursday and thought why not. As it was l was late because l couldn't remember the start time. So l crept in 15 minutes late. It was a good crowd and they enjoyed the show. This choir was a U3A choir which means that the singers are older, but, they still all sang in tune. The human voice does change as we age, but, the program suited the singer's voices. There's something wonderful about hearing voices sing in unison. There was even a small interlude from a jazz band. All in all a good performance. All this cost me a gold coin donation. That's all they asked.  Can l suggest to you that you get out and look in your suburbs. The arts thrive in Melbourne suburbs, but, l'm sure you will be able to find something where you live. Music, and the arts, are all around us.

Carols and a surprise

Beautiful voices singing in unison. If only l could sing in tune.

Vox Choir - Tis The Season

Image
On the weekend l went to another Choir performance. I had forgotten about this ticket and, having seen this choir before, went along on Saturday.  I like choirs and have enjoyed past performances by this choir.  Vox is a mixed choir with female and male singers, unlike the Bel Canto Choir which is all female. Unfortunately l didn't like this performance as much. I struggled to hear the male singers and wasn't that keen on the program. This is choral music, and l like choral music, but there was something that just didn't gel for me. The singing was good as was the pianist Heather Wickes. The audience was encouraged to join in on certain songs, but not me. I have such a terrible singing voice. Would l see this choir again? Yes l would. They are a good choir. I wasn't actually planning to see anymore Christmas shows after Bel Canto and maybe should have left it at that.  If you are in the local area  Vox are auditioning new members for next year. I won't be appl...

The Bel Canto Choir Christmas Show

Image
It's that time of year again.  I don't see many Christmas shows but l do like hearing choirs sing. Bel Canto is a local choir that perform at Mt Eliza here in Melbourne. Beautiful voices singing in unison.

Choirs

I have seen 2 choirs in the last 4 days. It began on Thursday with the U3A Frankston Choir. This was their Christmas Concert and all they asked for was a gold coin. U3A, for those who don;t know, stands for University for the Third Age. That means that the singers where older but still so good. This is a mixed choir which means there were tenors, sopranos and everything in between. There is something special about hearing all those voices sing as one.  On Sunday l went to Mt Eliza to hear the Bel Canto Choir of Mt Eliza. This is female choir and, oh, what a treat. Do you see those windows? I sat watching cotton wool clouds drift across the sky while beautiful music washed over me. Under the baton of Margaret Brown the choir soared as all the voices sang as one and it was beautiful. Both Choirs performed in Uniting Churches and l think both had good acoustics that helped the music. What a treat. http://www.thebelcantochoirmteliza.com.au/

Bel Canto Choir Mt Eliza

Bel Canto means beautiful singing. On Sunday l heard beautiful singing. An all female Bel Canto Choir.  This was the first time l heard a choir sing live and what a treat. Hearing all those voices singing in harmony. filling the air with waves of beautiful sounds. The voices ranged but blended as one. It really was good. The choir was supported by accompanists, the flute and percussionists. The special guest was Lachlan Redd The conductor, and artistic director is Margaret Brown. All in all a good afternoon. Bel Canto Mt Eliza stage 3 concerts a year and their next performance will be at Christmas. I will leave their website details below www.belcantochoirmteliza.com.au
