Ballet reimagined  Yesterday l saw a great show. I saw The Great Gatsby Ballet. Put on by Big Live this is ballet and theatre together. It really was such a treat. This is the first Big Live production l've seen and will be seeing their next production Dracula in October. The whole production was good and to a high standard. I love ballet and am so pleased to have a new ballet to watch. Have you seen any of Big Lives productions before? If they are coming to where you live it is well worth seeing a show. An early birthday present.  Thank you Suzie for this gift. It was a hoot. I love the theatre; the buzz before the lights dim, the thrill of what is to come. So much better than seeing it on a small screen. The theatre was full and this was a funny play. I have played the game but don't really remember it. Perhaps you have too. Each actor played their part well and played well as a cast. It was a good day. Yum Cha for lunch, and l finally managed to sort of manage chop sticks, and then off to the theatre. What a treat.

I have to thank my friend Suzie for the ticket. It's an early Christmas present.   What a good show. I'd seen the original Hitchcock film and thought it was good. However, there was no humour in that film whereas there is humour in the film. It works. 4 performers and 2 of them making all these zany costume changes. The Umbilical Brothers are staring in this production but on Saturday we saw their understudies. Lib Campbell and Berynn Schwerdt didn't miss a beat. It got me wondering, do the understudies study every character or does each character have its own understudy. It also got me wondering about all the suburban theatre l see. Do they use understudies too. It's understandable. Anyone can wake up in the morning feeling awful and not be able to perform. If any of you looking at this post have worked in theatre let me know. This is the second show by Mordialloc Theatre Company that l have seen this year. I've not been disappointed.   I love the Theatre. As l have said before l mainly see Community Theatre but the standard is so high l don't feel like I'm missing out by not going to the big shows. Each year l see so many different shows. What a treat.

Shakespeare in the suburbs. This is my favourite Shakespeare play.   Do you like Macbeth? Do you like live Theatre? Malvern Theatre Company is based in Burke Road Malvern.  Another good community Theatre group we have here in Melbourne.  Let me know what your local arts scene is like. I saw the first show in Mordialloc Theatre's 2025 and it was good. There is something magical about watching live theatre. It is the immediacy of watching a story unfold.  Love it.  What about you.? My own 2025 year in the arts is off to a flying start and l am loving every minute of it.  

It was so good to see live theatre again. Didn't know what to expect, but, it was good. Would definitely recommend this play. Enjoy.

  On Saturday l attended a performance of Stage Door at the Shirley Burke Theatre in Parkdale. It was performed by Aspect Inc which is a community theatre group. The play is set in 1930's New York and revolves around a rooming house for young inspiring female actors. Can l say that this was the first, and last, time l will see this play. It was listed as a comedy but l didn't find it funny or that interesting. Having said that l did like the performance. It was a big cast that played off each other well. I don't know if the accents were authentic New York accents but they were constant throughout.There were a few actors making their debut. Both of them performed well. The staging and costuming looked authentic too. Although l didn't like this play l would see other productions from Aspect Inc. What about you?   I will never tire of hearing that excited buzz before a performance. The air hums with anticipation for what lays ahead. What a beautiful old theatre the Comedy Theatre is. I'm a sucker for a chandelier. The Mousestrap is a play that is 70 years old and still going strong. This production is under the direction of the venerable Robyn Nevin. The set never changes and it, along with the actors, are set in the 1950's.  I'm not going to talk about the play itself and l will definitely not talk about the ending. What l will talk about is the excellent cast of Anna O'Byrne, Alex Rathgeber, Laurence Boxhall, Geraldine Turner, Charlotte Friels and Adam Murphy. they were all so good especially Laurence Boxhall. The dialogue moves along at a good pace and there are a few laughs along the way too. It's a clever mystery that keeps people guessing until the end. It starts as soon as l walked in the doors. The buzz of anticipation. I love the arts, especially live theatre and this is the first of several shows l'm seeing. Lux Radio Theatre Australia are a company of actors who perform radio plays. Yes, in their own words, this is theatre from a time before tv. Seeing the actors play different parts and all the sound effects made for a good performance. 4 actors doing a great job. Even the accents sounded good. If you ever get a chance to see radio theatre being performed take it. I've missed live performances so much and the entertainment industry as a whole has suffered due to Covid. It's good to be back.
