A bookworm life

Image
Do you have a bookworm life?  While l don't read many books these days l listen to audiobooks nearly everyday. I'm walking or on the bus most days and listening to the latest book. I like the sound of being a bookworm. As l have said many times l love the arts and see a lot of things. Well, l'm listening to a book when l'm traveling to the shows.  It's a grand life. Let me know if you're a bookworm like me.

Frankenstein - A horror tale

Image
I've seen another film.  Yes, 2 in 2 weeks, most unusual. This past week it was Frankenstein and what a good film it was. I haven't read the book so don't know how faithful this film is to it. A big production that was written well, acted well; it was a good film. The acting was good from all cast members and, the actor who played the being must have spent hours in makeup to look the way he did. It's a film that is a horror from start to finish with themes that make you think about them afterwards. My takeaway is that Victor was the true monster. How lucky am l to see 2 good films recently and l've seen the shorts of a film that is releasing in November and l will see that one too. Frankenstein 4 out of 5 stars.

The Hawk is Dead

The latest Peter James book is out  I think Peter James is a good crime fiction writer. This book has a different setting but it's still worth reading.  Let me know if you read Peter James.

After the hunt

An interesting film.  I can't really remember the last time l saw Julia Roberts in a film.  The performances of all the cast were good and this was an interesting film that made me think about afterwards; the sign of a good film l think. Have you seen this film?

Have you read The Da Vinci Code?

Image
It started with a documentary that l saw on Rennes le Chateau.  The documentary linked this book to the catholic priest in that town. So l decided to read(listen) to the book and can't clearly see the link yet. Let me know if you've read this book and can see the link.

Sonnet 20  And we are still talking to a fair youth. Enjoy

Donald the Cat is back!

Image
I'm house sitting again.  So it's Monday and on Monday l talk about the shows l've seen. I tried talking about the ballet l saw but, Donald, one of the cats l'm looking after, had other ideas. He has the sweetest nature and loves walking in front of the camera. He's not even meant to be up on the table but it doesn't stop him. So enjoy Donald and l talking about ballet.

Jane Harper has a new book out....

Image
Jane Harper has a new book coming out.  For the first time l can remember it is being released in Australia on Tuesday October 14th. The rest of the world will have to wait until April next year. It is most unusual to see something released in Australia first. We normally have to wait for most things. In January l finally was able to see the film Conclave. It was released in Australia 3 months later than in America and this is typical of what happens here. Of course Jane Harper is an Australian author, a very good author. Hopefully she will make appearances and l may able to see her talk at a library. I have read all the Aaron Falk novels which began with The Dry. Then, as it happens, l lost touch with her novels. I saw The Survivors on Netflix yesterday and have watched both films that starred Eric Bana as Aaron Falk. Next on my list is Lost Man. To reaquaint myself with this author l am currently listening to The Dry. It was such a good first novel and l will listen to this book ...

Downton Abbey

Image
Have you watched the Downton Abbey series?  If you have that's more than my friend and l had.  Last week a friend asked me if l wanted to see a film. She chose the film and l assumed that she must have watched the series. Imagine my surprise when l asked what it was about she said, like me, didn't know. She hadn't watched the series either! So there we were sitting in gold class eating our vegetarian spring rolls and drinking gin ( well okay that was only me) watching a film that's part of a series neither of us had watched. What was the film like. It was okay. Of course it probably would have been better if we knew the back story, but, the acting was good and the writer of the series wrote this film apparently. So that's continuity as least. If you know this series let me know. I believe it was very popular. I just never got around to watching it.  Have you ever been invited to see something and then release that you know nothing about it and don't really get t...

Do you like The Thursday Murder Club books?

There is a new book out in this series. This is the 5th book in the series and l currently have it queued on my audible app. These are enjoyable books to read. 4 elderly pensioners living in a retirement village. Now, that premise doesn't sound very interesting but, somehow, these books work. Not quite cosy English crime but they are in that vein. I saw the Netflix adaptation as well. Of course, like most books, there were some changes made for the screen. I do think that they got the characters right. Books nearly always get changed for filming. It makes sense as the films would be hours long if a book was followed faithfully and who wants to sit through a film that long! So it is in the queue. Now all l have to do is finish listening to the J.D. Robb book.

Who will believe my verse in time to come

We are up to Sonnet XVII  You may be wondering where Sonnet 16 is. Well, l thought we were up to 17 so that's what l wrote in my book and, then when l was filming the video l couldn't read my own writing.  A comedy of errors.  These Sonnets are grouped together as they all have the same theme; that a young man will only be remembered on if he has a child. Now, l would suggest that Shakespeare himself is known today for his written work not his family.  So l don't know if that premise is always true. Anyway l think 17 Sonnets on the one subject is enough.  There are many more Sonnets and,  hopefully,  next week we will have new subjects and ideas to explore. Shakespeare was such a good writer l have my fingers crossed.  Do you like Shakespeare? Do you like the Sonnets? Leave me a comment as l would like to know what you think.
