I love Daphne Du Maurier's 'Rebecca'- it is suspenseful and moody. I relate to the shy and self-doubting second wife who feels she can't compete with the first Mrs. De Winter and is intimidated by the creepy housekeeper Mrs. Danvers. I also love 'My Cousin Rachel' by the same author. We never truly know if Rachel was a murderer and the plot is thrilling. Really, I love anything by this author! Another favorite is 'Jane Eyre' by Charlotte Bronte. I always feel that 'Rebecca' was inspired by the plotline of this classic. Ruth Rendell's crime novels and those written under the Barbara Vine pseudonym are always great reads and P.D James is the best crime writer in my opinion. Her prose is wonderful.
Have any of you read Tolstoy? Do you have a favourite? This is a very interesting documentary that l found this week. He was an interesting man and led an interesting life. He is regarding as one of the greatest Russian writers and l think it is a well deserved titile. What do you think?
The heat has returned and so have l to where l stay in between jobs. We're having a hot, humid summer that never seems to stop. Good weather for staying inside and writing poetry. Today l am sharing the names of some poetry prizes around the world. All for emerging and new poets. Perhaps one of them is you. I hope so. I want poetry to thrive and survive. Most Wednesdays l read a poem and, if you would like me to read yours contact me at emilycat176@gmail.com and we can start a conversation about me reading it out.
I like crime novels. They are my favourite to read. Of course, theses days, when l say read l mean listen. I have bad hearing and have had hearing aides for years. Audible and Borrow Box are on my phone which is connected to my hearing aides and it is much easier to carry a phone rather than a book. Robert Galbraith books are so good. I personally think that J.K. Rowling is a very good writer. So l have gone back to the start. Through Audible l have listened to The Cuckoo's Calling right through to Troubled Blood. I'm going to listen to all of them; Ink Black Heart is next. They should all be finished by the time the new novel comes out and l can't wait. Who else is waiting for the new release? Do you like the Strike novels? Let's start a conversation.
