You've seen The Winter Masterpiece Exhibition and now you're going to get on #6 tram

Image
I'm talking about galleries in Prahran, an inner city suburb in Melbourne. You can get there on the tram or via the Sandringham train. I counted 12 galleries in the suburb. I'm also talking about a few other galleries and bits and pieces. Melbourne is a city that loves the arts. All through the suburbs we have galleries, arts centres halls and even churches that are used for the arts. Love it!   singulart.com johnstoncollections.org

This play has the wit of Oscar Wilde

This is the second show by Mordialloc Theatre Company that l have seen this year. I've not been disappointed.   I love the Theatre. As l have said before l mainly see Community Theatre but the standard is so high l don't feel like I'm missing out by not going to the big shows. Each year l see so many different shows. What a treat.

The Mountain - Elizabeth Bishop

Image
Do you like poetry like l do?  This is a poem by Elizabeth Bishop. She was an American poet and l think she was a very good poet. I have read another poem by this poet. At the Fish Houses. If you're interested it is on this website too. Let me know what you think and lets start a conversation.

The big shows this week

Image
Do you have someone visiting Melbourne this week? Do you want to see one of the big shows in the city? I'm talking about the CBD Theatres this week and there are quite a few. Melbourne is a very cultural city and we have some lovely theatres, not just in the suburbs, but all through the CBD. Plenty of choose from. I'm sticking to the suburbs for the next few weeks but hope you find something on this list that appeals to you. While you're sitting in a CBD Theatre on the weekend l will be in a suburban theatre and will tell you all about it on Monday. Enjoy. Do you like Gilbert & Sullivan - For Alison

Image
I was going to see this show with Alison, but, she's not well and gifted her ticket for someone else to use.  Get well soon Alison.  As far as l can remember this is the first G & S show l've seen. It was performed by The Gilbert & Sullivan Opera Society of Victoria. I didn't know that Melbourne had such a Society. Let me know if you like The Micado and have any of you seen it before?

Do you read books from the same genre all the time?

Image
I like reading crime and find that l keep choosing crime fiction.   It's about time l broadened my reading. So I've got a Frances Mayes book to read. Totally different from crime. What about you? Are you like me constantly reading the same genre? Let's start a conversation

Who wants to be a pirate queen?

Image
My first time seeing The Pirate Queen. This musical was written by the same team that wrote Les Miserables. What did l think of it?  I think it's so important to see, and support community theatre. Do you agree?

I've read a book

Image
I'm back and feeling better. This week l'm talking about books. Not only did l feel unwell last week my hearing was impacted. No hearing on the left and less than 50% on the right. So no audiobooks as my hearing aides are connected to my phone and l couldn't hear it anyway. What did l do? I sat down and read a book.  Let me know if any of you have read either of these books. It's a good thing that my hearing is now back to normal; well, normal for me as l do have issues with my hearing and have worn hearing aides for nearly 10 years. I'm going to a show this weekend and at least l will be able to hear it.  Happy days.

Taking a break

Hi, l am taking a week off as l have some health issues at the moment.  Hope you are all well

Life's a picture

I'm talking about our galleries today. Do you like going to galleries, do you yourself paint? There are over 100 galleries throughout the suburbs of Melbourne ( l'm not going to list all of them!). Of course there are some very well known exhibitions each year. The National Gallery of Victoria hosts The Winter Masterpiece Exhibition. This year it is the French Masters and l have my ticket booked. I also saw the excellent exhibition by Yayoi Kusama recently. If you want to see Australian art The Ian Potter Museum is the place to go. My painting class is this afternoon, but, l stick to paint by numbers; that's the extent of my talent. What are the galleries like where you live?
